We want you to know that The Riverside respects the information we hold on you and that we take the security of your information very seriously. Webcams and privacy – Boscastle webcam
On the front of the property we have installed an IP wireless webcam enabling customers and visitors to view the day to day life of the village. This camera is internally fixed and is not fixed to the outside of the building.
The Data Protection Act 1998 and the Data Protection Commissioner’s Code of Practice on CCTV restrict the use of webcams in some circumstances. The need to warn people that they may be on camera does not arise if individuals are not identifiable from the webcam output. It is only if a webcam is to operate in a public space like a street or a park and individuals can be clearly identified, the operator should put a warning notice near the webcam.
To ensure that privacy is not affected, we have made sure that the following has been addressed:
- Public Privacy: This camera is situated high enough to give a general image of the harbour area. Therefore, no person or activity is the focus for this camera. The camera focuses on a public area in the Harbour of Boscastle.
- Data Protection: This camera provides a live feed or motion picture. Therefore no images are recorded or kept as part of this feature on site. Users are able to take static photos, however, again as no person or activity is the focus, this is treated the same as if someone were taking a photograph with a disposable camera.
